Utahns for Civic Engagement promotes civic engagement in the community, thru both political and non-political processes.
Utahns for Civic Engagement is a non-partison educational project aimed at empowering citizens to become more engaged in civic processes. Events and information will be designed to educate community members on the various facets of civic involvement.
We are a Utah-based project, independent of larger movements. Our desire is to effect increased levels of citizen engagement in Utah through educational events and access to resources on a variety of topics and issues.
The New York Times published a piece on what defines civic engagement:
Excerpts from Civic Responsibility and Higher Education, edited by Thomas Ehrlich, published by Oryx Press, 2000.
Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.
A morally and civically responsible individual recognizes himself or herself as a member of a larger social fabric and therefore considers social problems to be at least partly his or her own; such an individual is willing to see the moral and civic dimensions of issues, to make and justify informed moral and civic judgements, and to take action when appropriate.
Utahns for Civic Engagement is a non-partisan educational initiative of Blue Sky Institute.
